And so it begins...

"Well that took longer than I thought!"  - DYIer

February 11th 2013

The title man slides the keys across the table. Congratulates, handshaking, and laughs ensue. Some story about a personal life experience that everyone has heard a million times is being told by one of the four other people sitting with me and Katy in very cold title office.  The theme of this office is clearly presidents because there is about nine framed pictures of various presidents in just the room we are sitting.  Perhaps this makes it feel more  official for people signing the deed to their mortgage's. The signing of documents was not all that everyone made it out to be.  Whereas I thought we would be sitting there for hours on end signing papers, it turned out to only about 30 minutes.  My signing speed skills are much faster than that, it's just the title guy felt it prudent to explain each document that I putting my name to.  Regardless I'm a signing diva and we make it out of there in a jiffy. Now we finally get to go see our new house without a third party chaperone following us around.

Katy and I take a quick run to Starbucks to celebrate our new house purchase.  Apparently this is the new thing us two thousand-teen modern home owners do after sealing the deal. Champagne is so 1990's.  Shortly thereafter we make a stop at our freshly purchased dwelling.  Karen, my eldest sister, came to town in order to spend time with my mom, and help her with recovering from her surgery so the timing was perfect for this west coast ship jumper to be of the first people to see the new house. Along with her came my mother and Olly. (Olly kicks ass!) Jeremy was also able to squeeze out some time from work to get the maiden tour.   After a good chunk of time Katy and I had laid out our vision of the next five years and every little thing we wanted to do room by room.

Later that evening as Katy and I were reviewing the seemingly never ending list of renovations; Katy mentions with humorous undertones that we should start a blog about all home renovation adventures we are about to embark on.  Inspired by reading several entries from a DYI'er blog site(younghouselove) which Katy reads on reg, I'm sold to the idea.

And so it begins!

  1. I'm so glad you guys are doing a blog! I will be your most devoted fan. Oh, and I read Young House Love too. Who knows, maybe you'll hit it big like they did.
